Wright to Argentina

In my current role with Reaching and Teaching, I get to see the huge need for leadership development and pastoral training all over the world. It has been a joy to be with brothers in several countries who are hungry to be taught sound doctrine and who want to labor in ministry in a way that is glorifying to God.

One recent encounter has really stuck with me. Earlier this year in Panama a pastor working among his Kuna tribe shared with me a struggle that he was facing in ministry. With tears in his eyes he expressed how he wanted to act in a Christlike way in the situation, but wasn’t sure what to do. “What would God have him do in this situation?” he asked.

In that moment I realized the deep desire I had to walk with this pastor day by day and week by week. To speak his language and to come alongside him in ministry and provide encouragement and training along the way. Those same desires were stirred once again as I had the opportunity to be with pastors and leaders in Ecuador back in April.

So, over the last six months, Kami and I have been diligently praying and seeking counsel on what we believed was a clear calling to pursue full time missions as a family. We took time to consider the desires, experiences, and gifts that God has given us. Through that season of prayer, time in the Word, and seeking counsel we are confident that this is indeed what God wants us to do!

That’s right, we are excited to share that over the next year we will be transitioning from USA based staff to career missionaries with Reaching and Teaching!

“Where?” you might ask. Before, during, and after our trip to Argentina in August, Kami and I both felt like this was the place we were to serve. Below, we outline our tentative timeline and plans. Our hope is that we will have the opportunity to personally share with you about all of this over the next year.

– Our tentative plan is to be on the ground in Argentina in October 2016.

– Until that time we will be busy pursuing more ministry partners, helping to provide a smooth transition with my current responsibilities at Reaching and Teaching, and selling most of our stuff in preparation to move.

– Our plan now is to live in Córdoba, Argentina for the first 2-3 years while we learn the language and culture. Additionally, we will work with Iglesia Bautista Centro Crecer (the church we worked with back in August) in raising up a team to plant a church in Salta. Salta is a city north of Córdoba and is home to half a million people. There are very few churches in the city and many are led by untrained pastors. Additionally, there are pastors throughout the mountain region who are in desperate need of theological training. We hope to share more about the opportunities in this area in future newsletters.

Based on this, we would be grateful for your prayers as we begin this process. Here are a few ways you can pray:

– Pray for our children: Kayden, Carley, and Brielle. Pray they will adjust well over the next year (and beyond!) and that God will give Kami and I wisdom on how to best shepherd them through difficult days.

– Pray as we raise the rest of our needed support. Since my current position with Reaching and Teaching is support raised, we have a head start. Praise God! However, we will need some additional monthly support as well as one time expense funds to cover things like language school, moving, and setting up our home in a new country. Pray that churches and individuals will choose to partner with us in this ministry.

– Pray that we will remain steadfast in our commitment. While we are sure this is what God intends for us, we are also sure that there will be difficult days and moments of doubts. Pray that we will be ever reminded of God’s faithfulness.

Even as I write this, I am filled with joy and thankfulness that God would choose to use us for his great purposes in Argentina! I am also filled with gratitude that he has raised up you to walk with us as we work together to reach and teach the nations.

By his grace and for his glory,

Jason and Kami Wright
